Best Presenter Award – 31st PGIA Annual Congress
Mr. K.K.T.N. Ranaweera, Lecturer (Probationary) attached to the Department of Animal Science of Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka won the “Session Best Presenter” award at the “31st Annual Congress-2019” organized by the
Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya. The congress was held from 21st November to 22nd November, 2019. Mr. Ranaweera won the Best Presenter Award under the Technical Session “Trade, Nutrition
and Welfare of Animals”.

Outstanding Poster Presentation Award- The University of Hong Kong
Ms. T.S.R. Fernando, Lecturer attached to the Department of Animal Science of Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka won the “Outstanding Poster Presenter” award at the 23rd Research Postgraduate Symposium (RPS) at The University
of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. The Research Postgraduate Symposium (RPS) is an annual event of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong and was held this year from 05th to 06th December 2018. She received
this award for her paper titled “Differential expression of PDIA1 and PDIA6 in endometrial cell lines and their suppressive effect on spheroids attachment”.

Champions of the Cricket Tournament
Faculty of Animal Science & Export Agriculture (FASEA) beat Department of Science & Technology comfortably by 9 wickets and won Cricket Tournament organized by the Welfare Society of the Uva Wellassa University on 28th June,
2018. The cricket tournament consisted of eleven teams representing all categories of the staff members in the University. Faculty of Animal Science & Export Agriculture qualified for the final by defeating the team of
Faculty of Technological Studies. Department of Science & Technology came into the final by defeating Mix Team at Semi-finals. Prof. Dinesh Jayasena and Mr. Charitha Dias from Faculty of Animal Science & Export Agriculture
received the Best Batsman Award and the Best Bowler Award, respectively.

The Best Oral Presenter Awards at PGIA Congress-2017
Ms. Maheshika Kurukulasuriya, Lecturer attached to Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Science and Export Agriculture won the Best Oral Presenter Award in “Animal Science and Mariculture Session” at the 29th Annual
Congress of Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA), University of Peradeniya held on November 16 & 17, 2017. Ms. Kurukulasuriya received these awards for presenting her research findings on “Phenotypic Marker Based
Evaluation of Resistance to Haemonchus contortus in Sri Lankan Indigenous Goats and Their Jamnapari Crossbreds”. The Annual Congress is an international scientific forum organized annually by the PGIA with the aim of promoting
postgraduate research in agriculture by providing a forum for presentation, discussion & debate, and disseminating research findings.

CVCD Excellence Awards 2016
Dr. D.K. Dinesh Darshaka Jayasena, Senior Lecturer of Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Science and Export Agriculture, Uva Wellassa University was awarded the CVCD Excellence Award–2016, for the Most Outstanding
Young Researcher in Biological Sciences including Agriculture and Allied Sciences. Dr. Jayasena has to his credit 35 research publications in peer reviewed prestigious international journals, majority of which are indexed
in Science Citation Index and Science Citation Index Expanded and also contributed 3 chapters to international books. Furthermore, he has been a recipient of several research awards including President’s Awards for Scientific
Publications twice in 2015 and 2016 and Vice Chancellor’s Award for the Most Outstanding Young Researcher in 2015
President’s Awards for Scientific Publication-2016
Two (02) researchers from the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Science and Export Agriculture, Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka were awarded at the recently held President’s Awards for Scientific Publication
for the year 2014. Dr. E.D.N.S. Abeyrathne and Dr. D.K.D.D. Jayasena received these prestigious awards at a ceremony held at the Water’s Edge on 22 November 2016, graced by His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, the President
of Sri Lanka, and the Hon. Susil Premajayantha, Minister for Science, Technology & Research. The awards ceremony was jointly organized by the National Research Council, the Ministry of Science, Technology & Research and
the Presidential Secretariat with the aim of promoting and supporting scientists in Sri Lanka. A total of 231 recipients received awards at this ceremony.

Best Overall Presenter at ICFA 2016
Ms. K.P.G.K.P. Guruge, Lecturer (Probationary) attached to the Department of Animal Science of Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka won the “Best Overall Presenter” award at the “International Conference of Fisheries and Aquaculture-
(ICFA)-2016” organized by the International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM). The event was held at Hotel Goldi Sand, Negombo, Sri Lanka, from 24th to 25th August 2016. She received this award for her paper titled
“Vertical distribution and diversity of molluscs in intertidal habitats of Pigeon Island National Park, Trincomalee, Sri Lanka”.

Ms. Maleeka Nambapana, Lecturer attached to Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Science and Export Agriculture won the Best Presenter Award in “Animal Science Session” and the Overall Best Presenter Award at the
27th Annual Congress of Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture (PGIA), University of Peradeniya held on November 19 & 20, 2015. Ms. Nambapana received these awards for presenting her research findings on “The Effect of Economase
as Vitamin E Replacer on Performance, Meat Quality and Organ Weights of Broilers”. The event was held at the Plant Genetic Resources Centre (PGRC), Gannoruwa, Peradeniya. The Annual Congress is an international scientific
forum organized by the PGIA every year with the aim of promoting postgraduate research in agriculture by providing a forum for presentation, discussion & debate, and disseminating research findings.
