Another CSR activity of Department of Science & Technology, a two-day experimental workshop on chemistry for Ordinary Level Students in under-resourced schools in Badulla district, was successfully conducted for the first time at the main Chemistry Laboratory of Uva Wellassa University on 19th and 20th July 2017. Altogether fifty seven students of grade 10 and 11 and three staff members from B/Gawela Vidyalaya and B/Aththalagedara Thakshila Maha Vidyalaya participated for the workshop. The activity was organized by the Senior Lecturer, Dr. Thusitha Etampawala with the help of temporary lecturers and demonstrators of the chemistry division under the supervision of the Head of the Department, Dr. Jagath Pitawala. During the two days all the students had a chance to have hands-on experience on most of the experimental work related to chemistry sub-section of Ordinary Level science subject. The work was highly appreciated by the teachers and the principals of the respective schools. The Department is planning to conduct similar activities in future for the under-resourced schools in Uva region to encourage the science education among the school students.
