The Inauguration Ceremony of the first Batch of the Bachelor of Business Management General (External) Degree Programme offered by the Faculty of Management, in collaboration with the Center for Open and Distance Learning of Uva Wellassa University was held on 23rd of August 2020 at the University premises. A total number of hundred and sixty-five (165) students were enrolled as the first batch of the Bachelor of Business Management General (External) Degree Programme.
The ceremony was graced by Prof. Jayantha Lal Rathnasekara, Vice-Chancellor of UvaWellassa University and the Chief Secretary of Uva provincial council Mr. P.B Wijayarathne along with all the other invited guests.
Welcoming the chief guest and other dignitaries, the Director of Center for Open and Distance Learning of UvaWellassa University, Mr. Ravindra Deshapriya delivered the welcome speech by describing the inception of the degree programme as the pioneering external degree programme of the Uva Wellassa University.
Next the gathering was addressed by the head, Department of Management Sciences, Faculty of Management, Ms. Chithrasheeli Gunarathne mentioning the aims and objectives of the BBM external degree programme.
In his address, Mr. G.H Abeyweera, dean Faculty of Management, briefed the importance of Language Learning in Business Management and how they are interconnected from a long time. He motivated students to actively participate in the upcoming lectures to get benefited.
Attending the function as the guest of honour, Prof. Jayantha Lal Rathnasekara, Vice-Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University addressed the gathering revealing the significance of the initiated degree programme in the arena of Business Management.
During the function the invited chief guest, the Chief Secretary of Uva provincial council Mr. P.B Wijayarathne stated the prevailing situation of the education in Uva province and the necessity of graduates for the public sector by inspiring the students to follow the degree programme effectively.
In the end, Prof. Imali Fernando the Coordinator of the Bachelor of Business Management External degree programme offered the vote of thanks to allincluding the honorable chief guests.She thanked all the invited guests and participants for gracing the occasion by their solemn presence.
