Showcasing the victory of Uva Wellassa University scholars, the 5th Convocation consisted with two sessions was inaugurated at 8.00 a.m. and 01.00 p.m., respectively, on the 19th day of June 2015 at the auditorium of Uva Wellassa University. The Chancellor of the Uva Wellassa University, Thripitakacharya Dharma Keerthi Sri Sumangala Rathanapala Dhammarakkhitha, Most Venerable, Bengamuwe Sri Dhammadinna Nayake Thero, Chief Incumbent of Sripada Temple, Chief Incumbent of Rathnapura Pothgul Rajamaha Viharaya and Pelmadulu Rajamaha Viharaya as well as Chief Sanganayaka of Rathnapura Maha Disawa conferred the Bachelor’s Degrees on 436 graduands.
Besides, the best performer in every degree programme was rewarded with Vice Chancellor’s award for the best performance by the current Vice Chancellor, Dr. Gamini Chandrasena.
Furthermore, Senior Professor, Gamini Senanayaka, Vice Chancellor, University of Ruhuna and Professor P.S.M. Gunerathne, Vice Chairman, University Grant Commission delivered the keynote addresses being the guests of honour in the two sessions scheduled.
In this 5th Convocation, the Faculty of Animal Science & Export Agriculture confered 180 Bachelor’s degrees on graduands under five unique Degree Programmes: 35 from Animal Science, 39 from Aquatic Recourses & Technology, 31 from Export Agriculture, 38 from Palm & Latex Technology and Value Addition, and 37 from Tea Technology and Value Addition. Furthermore, 158 graduands walked away with Bachelor’s degrees from the Faculty of Science & Technology under four exceptional Degree Programmes; 41 from Science and Technology, 34 from Mineral Resources & Technology, 40 from Computer Science & Technology and 43 from Industrial Information Technology. Moreover, Faculty of Management bestowed 98 Bachelor’s degrees at this convocation under two outstanding Degree Programmes; 47 from Entrepreneurship & Management while 51 from Hospitality Tourism & Events Management.
This 5th convocation of UWU was a formal yet magnificent occasion with artistic infusion of academics, graduands and their parents who come to UWU from every nook and corner of Sri Lanka.
