Taking a colossal step in university education, the Department of Science and Technology, Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka was successfully concluded, Sri Lanka’s largest-ever robot competition, ” UWU ROBOT BATTLES 2019- Extra Edition ” in the third consecutive time collaboration with US Embassy during the ‘Maker Fair’ at Trace Expert City, Colombo, on 20th October 2019.
Battle was much competitive with smashing talents of the youth, who represented the schools, state and private universities, technical colleges, tertiary education institutes, state and private sector companies, and the young teams comprised of diverse youngsters coming from various backgrounds. There were a total of 101 teams comprised of more than 500 participants. The First Place was reigned by the University of Moratuwa in a much more aggressive fight between the Robots presented by the University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC). The fight ended with dragging the University of Vocational Technology (UNIVOTEC) team to the Second Place and University of Kelaniya team to the third place. Making this competition a reality an immense number of people contributed thousands of volunteer hours, offering their support and hard work.
Uva Wellassa University will proudly continue this effort, which predicates its’ dedication towards the development of this specific field. Already the Uva Wellassa University, produce well-rounded experts in the robotics and automation field via Bachelor of Science and Technology Special in Mechatronics degree program at the Department of Science and Technology.
