Each year on September 27, World Tourism Day is celebrated to raise awareness among the international community on the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic value. World Tourism Day 2021 is an opportunity to rethink the future of the tourism industry in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
National Celebration of World Tourism Day – 2021, was a classy event which was held on 27th of September 2021 under the theme of “Tourism for Inclusive Growth” at Haputale and Uva Wellasssa University, which was organized by the Department of Tourism Studies of the Uva Wellassa University in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism, Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and Ministry of Tourism, Uva Province. Mr. A.J.M.Muzzamil, Hon. Governor of the Uva Provincewas the chief guest of the ceremonial event. Mr. S.Hettiarachchi, Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Prof. J.L.Ratnasekera, Vice Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University, Mr. P.B.Wijethunga, Chief Secretary to the Uva Province, Ms. Dhammika Wijesinghe, Director General of SLTDA, Mr. Nihal Gunarathne, Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism, Uva Province and many other foreign and local reputed tourism industry experts were also participated in this event.
