The Department of Computer Science and Technology of Uva Wellassa University commenced Certificate Courses on ‘Java Application Development and Web Designing’. The main objective of such enormous programme is to develop the Information Technology (IT) literacy of the youth in Uva Province. The Inauguration Ceremony was held on October 24, 2015 at the University auditorium under the guidance and supervision of Dr. E.P.S.K. Ediriweera, Head, Department of Computer Science and Technology as well as the Dean of Faculty of Science and Technology. Vice Chancellor, academic staff, administrative staff, technical staff, students and their parents participated in this ceremony. Dr. G. Chandrasena, Vice Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University and Mr. G.H. Abeyweera, Director of Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL) addressed the audience, emphasizing the value of having knowledge about information technology.

The first session “Introduction to Computer” was conducted by Ms. M. Ramashini, Lecturer, Department of Computer Science and Technology to all the students. The Department of Computer Science and Technology is expecting to conduct more computer based courses and continue to improve the IT literacy of the people in Uva Province.
