Egg – The New Frontier

Dr. Dong Uk Ahn, Professor in Poultry Meat Science, Department of Animal Science, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA, visited Uva Wellassa University on November 22, 2014 to deliver a guest speech on “Egg – The New Frontier”. The programme was attended by Dr. Gamini Chandrasena, Vice Chancellor of Uva Wellassa University, Dr. S.C. Jayamanne, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science & Export Agriculture, Dr. L.M.H.R. Alwis, Head, Department of Export Agriculture, Academics of the Department of Animal Science and under graduates of the Animal Science Degree Programme. The session was highly productive and informative as Dr. Ahn disseminated his own research experience on separation & utilization of value-added components from egg, and development of functional bioactive peptides from egg proteins. He also brought out the future potentials of the industry, importance of capitalizing on these opportunities and role of undergraduates in the process of developing the egg industry.
