About CQA

uwu 3 pillars

The statue indicate the three pillars services of UWU : Center for Quality Assurance strengthens Uva Wellassa University’s academic activities, research, and corporate social responsibilities to achieve the university mission of becoming the center of excellence for value addition to the national resource base.

The Centre for Quality Assurance (CQA) at Uva Wellassa University (UWU) stands as a testament to the institution’s unwavering commitment to the highest academic and professional standards. Established in 2012 and formalized in 2015 through the University Grants Commission (UGC) Circular No. 04/2015, the CQA has evolved into a Standing Committee of the Senate, as per UGC Circular No. 09/2019. At its core, the CQA is dedicated to coordinating and overseeing all quality assurance (QA) activities within UWU.

Championing the mission of placing students at the center, the CQA fosters a collaborative learning environment that is supportive, well-resourced, and academically conducive. Its mandate extends to ensuring that the university operates in alignment with the Sri Lanka Qualification Framework and adheres to standards set by the Quality Assurance Council of the UGC (QAC).

The CQA’s comprehensive internal QA process is instrumental in upholding the highest standards in undergraduate and postgraduate education. Through meticulous oversight, it facilitates curriculum development and revision, analyzes and acts upon student feedback, conducts peer observations in teaching, and ensures external quality assurance through institutional and programmatic reviews.

To efficiently execute its responsibilities, the CQA collaborates with Faculty Quality Assurance Cells (FQACs), the Quality Assurance Cell at the Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL-QAC), the Quality Assurance Cell at the Postgraduate Unit (PGU-QAC), and Quality Assurance Cells in various divisions, including Library, Administration, and Finance. Beyond the university’s boundaries, the CQA engages with the QAC at the national level for policy development and implementation in quality assurance.

The administration of the Centre’s activities is overseen by the Standing Committee of the Senate on Quality Assurance, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the University. The overall administration of the Centre is under the responsibility of a part-time Director, who is supported by an Administrative Officer and other staff.
