Bachelor of Science Honours in Plantation Management and Technology (PMT) is a unique degree programme which accomplishes SLQF Level 06 in four years with 8 academic semesters. This degree programme was introduced with the aim of producing graduates with subject specific knowledge in plantation sector, skills necessary for plantation management, manufacturing and running enterprises, and personal qualities that prepare them as professionals in a range of disciplines related to tea, rubber, coconut and other allied crops. The curriculum is logically structured in order to provide undergraduates with a thorough background in principle subject areas during the first two years in addition to providing Essential Skills Development and Broad General Education. In the third year, the students are provided with opportunity to specialize in one of the three specializations with advanced knowledge: (i) Plantation Crop Production (PCP), (ii) Manufacturing Technology (MFT) and (iii) Plantation Business Management (PBM). 

During the programme, undergraduates are equipped with creativity and novel ideas which will in turn help develop novel products and services to the industry. Practical exposure of the undergraduates is also covered by Field Training and Industrial Training programmes in addition to the routine laboratory activities. Final year research project allows them to investigate problems related to the sector and to generate scientific solutions. The trainings provided and the research engaged as core curricular activities are expected to craft more employable opportunities to the graduates.  

Upon completion, the graduates are expected to suggest solutions to emerging problems in plantation industry giving due consideration to technological advancements, marketing requirements and environmental sustainability by advancing the plantation industry in order to contribute to the economic growth of the country.
