Criteria for Offering Specializations

Preliminaries
- Department of Information and Communication Technology is offering the Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology Honours Degree Programme.
- Students are required to follow a specialisation from the first semester of the 300 level.
- As per the approved curriculum: at the moment, the department is offering two specializations. These are Software Technology and Business Intelligence.
Specialization selection and offering procedure
- The department will call online/physical applications for registering for the specializations before starting the semester and parallel to the semester course registrations.
- Students have the freedom to select one of the specialisation areas (Software Technology or Business Intelligence) according to the student’s preferences and submit applications.
- The department is offering specializations with: 50% of students or approximately 50% of students out of the total number of students for each specialization.
- After getting the initial applicant details,
- if both specialisations are with the same number of applicants or approximately the same number of applicants, the department will allow to proceed with the selections. Eg:
- 50 students for Business Intelligence specialisation and 50 students for Software Technology specialisation.
- 55 students in Business Intelligence specialisation and 45 students in Software Technology specialisation.
- if one specialisation with a demanded number of applicants, the applicants with the top CGPA out of the total number of applicants who selected that particular specialization will be allowed for that particular specialization and other applicants will be transferred to the rest
specialisation. Finally, condition 3 above should be satisfied after the filtering process.
Eg:- If 70 students are selected for the Business Intelligence specialization, the applicants with the top CGPA out of the total number of applicants who selected the Business Intelligence specialization will be allowed to follow the Business Intelligence specialization. The rest applicants will be transferred to the Software Technology specialization.
- if both specialisations are with the same number of applicants or approximately the same number of applicants, the department will allow to proceed with the selections. Eg:
- The students who are registered for the Software Technology specialization should follow all the courses offered under Software Technology from the 300 level onwards. The courses offered under Business Intelligence can follow as optional courses.
- The students who are registered for the Business Intelligence specialization should follow all the courses under Business Intelligence from the 300 level onwards. The courses offered under Software Technology can follow as optional courses.
- If a student plans to change the specialisation in a later semester, that student needs to complete all course modules for that particular specialization or the completion of the degree.
- All other requirements for the completion of the degree and awarding of the degree are not changed.
- All course registration procedures are not changed.
