Dr. D.K.Dinesh Darshaka Jayasena, Senior Lecturer of Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Animal Science and Export Agriculture, Uva Wellassa University was awarded the CVCD Excellence Award–2016, for the Most Outstanding Young Researcher in Biological Sciences including Agriculture and Allied Sciences.
Dr. Jayasena’s research areas include Study on carcass and eating quality parameters of meat from farm animals, in particular on flavour chemistry, Quality and safety improvement in animal products using natural antioxidative and antimicrobial agents, Development of novel meat products with functional properties using locally available underutilized materials, and Study on utilization of and value addition to slaughter house by-products.
Dr. Jayasena has to his credit 35 research publications in peer reviewed prestigious international journals, majority of which are indexed in Science Citation Index and Science Citation Index Expanded and also contributed 3 chapters to international books. Furthermore, he has been a recipient of several research awards including President’s Awards for Scientific Publications twice in 2015 and 2016 and Vice Chancellor’s Award for the Most Outstanding Young Researcher in 2015.
