Celebrating the Remarkable Career of Prof. K.G. Premathilake

Prof. K.G. Premathilake retired on September 30, 2024, after 10 years of dedicated service to the Sri Lankan higher education system as a member of Uva Wellassa University. He was attached to the Department of Export Agriculture, Faculty of Animal Science and Export Agriculture, and was an eminent scholar in the fields of weed science and agronomy. Over the years, he has made a significant contribution towards escalating the tea industry to new heights.

Prof. Premathilake began his journey at the Tea Research Institute (TRI) in 1990. Since then, he has helped advance the tea industry through a wealth of scientific research and knowledge generation. Prof. Premathilake’s leadership as the Head of the Agronomy Division at TRI further solidified his impact, guiding key developments in the sector.

Diverting from his initial career trajectory, Prof. Premathilake joined Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka in 2014 as a Senior Lecturer. Thereafter, he was promoted to the post of Professor in Weed Science. For over a decade, he has actively nurtured young minds at Uva Wellassa University, inspiring generations of students. It is with fondness and reverence that we celebrate his incredible journey and achievements.

His felicitation ceremony was held on October 01, 2024, in the presence of Senior Prof. K.B. Wijesekara, Vice Chancellor, Uva Wellassa University; Prof. H.M.S.K. Herath, Dean, Faculty of Animal Science and Export Agriculture; together with other academic, administrative, and non-academic staff members of the university. It was the third retirement of the Faculty of Animal Science and Export Agriculture since its inception.

As you embark on this well-deserved retirement, we wish you a future filled with joy, relaxation, and fulfillment. Thank you for leaving an incredible legacy that will inspire generations to come.
