Research Assistant Position (Full time) Leading to a MPhil Degree
Applications are invited for a Research Assistant position at the Department of Food Science and Technology, Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic graduate with interpersonal and critical thinking skills for the project of “Enhancing the viability of Probiotic bacteria through microencapsulation of ultrasound treated wall materials (soy protein and inulin) and developing a probiotic beverage”. The selected candidate needs to get registered as a MPhil student at Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka by submitting the relevant documents.

Selection Criteria:
Educational Qualifications:
- First- or second-class upper division Bachelor’s degree in Food Science/Animal Science.
- Must possess strong writing and communication skills in English language.
- Competency in computer and statistical skills
Other qualifications:
- Must be able to perform and complete tasks within a given period of time.
- Knowledge and research experience relevant to Food microbiology.
- Familiarity with laboratory techniques and equipment used in food science research.
- Previous laboratory experience in probiotic enumeration, bacteria microencapsulation and in vitro human gut simulation will be an added advantage
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct laboratory experiments involving microencapsulation of probiotics.
- Analyze data and prepare reports.
- Collaborate with team members and participate in progress meetings.
- Assist in writing research papers and presentations.
- Completing all the relevant requirements of the MPhil degree.
Period of Contract:
The contract period of the above post will be two years, and you need to get in to an agreement with the Principal Investigator of the project for this period.
Remuneration:
Monthly allowance of Rs. 65,000/= will be paid as per the payment regulations of the Uva Wellassa University Grant (UWU/RG/MPhil/2024/12).

Selection method:
Selection will be made based on academic qualifications and laboratory experience in the relevant field. Short listed applicants will be called for an interview if required.
