Fulfilling the priority discipline of disseminating the knowledge generated in the university for a broader community by cooperating with different industrial partners, UBL Cell Uva Wellassa University could officially entered into a licensing agreement with Raawana Aro Limited. The event was held on April 30, 2024, at the Senate Board Room to commercialize chili ice cream invented by Dr. Nishani Abesinghe and her research team.
The Vice Chancellor of the Uva Wellassa University, Prof. K.B. Wijesekara, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and former Director-UBL, Prof. A.S. Ratnayake, Director of the UBL, Prof. P.I.N. Fernando, Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology, Prof. W.A.J.P. Wijesinghe, Main Inventor of the project, Dr. Nishani Abesinghe, Manager of the UBL Cell, Ms. M.K.A. Shanika, the Managing Director of Raawana Agro Limited, Mr. Nimal Lankathilaka and his team were presented at the event.
This novel innovation focused mainly on the industries of ice cream production and adds value to the natural food production systems. The products are exclusively produced using high-quality chili varieties by the company, maintaining the uniqueness of the ice cream products to the Sri Lankan market.
