Quality Review Procedure
The Quality Assurance Council of the University Grants Commission oversees the periodic external reviews of two distinct types: program reviews and institutional reviews. External reviewers, appointed by the Council, conduct these reviews. Entities subject to upcoming reviews receive formal notifications, along with training and guidance on preparing self-evaluation reports.
Institutional Reviews
The Institutional Review assesses and verifies the efficiency of an institution’s procedures in overseeing and ensuring the quality of academic activities conducted by the University/Higher Education Institution (HEI). It appraises the dependability of internal quality assurance mechanisms in sustaining the quality of educational programs over time. The Manual for Institutional Review of Sri Lankan Universities and Higher Education Institutions has been created to offer guidance to universities and HEIs seeking to undergo Institutional Review within the Quality Assurance Framework established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).

Programme Reviews
The Programme Review assesses the efficiency of the Faculty’s or Institute’s procedures in overseeing and ensuring the quality of study programs, student learning experiences, and award standards within a specific program of study. It focuses on managing and assuring quality at the program level. The manual for the Review of Undergraduate Study Programs in Sri Lankan Universities and Higher Education Institutions has been created to offer guidance to universities and other HEIs intending to undergo a review of their study programs. This process is conducted within the Quality Assurance Framework established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).
