Dr. Kolitha Wijesekara, Head Department of Science and Technology, has been promoted as the first Merit Professor of Uva Wellassa University. Professor Wijesekara, who is an old boy of Kingwood Collage Kandy, completed his BSc (Hon.) special Degree (in Botany) and M.Phil. Degree (in Plant Sciences) from the University of Peradeniya. He obtained his Dr. Sc. Agr. Degree (in Plant Biotechnology) from the prestigious Georg August University in Gottingen, Germany in 2007. He joined with Uva Wellassa University as a Senior Lecturer in 2008. He served as the Course Director of Science and Technology Degree program from 2009 to 2012 and at present serving as the Head of the Department of Science and Technology. Professor Wijesekara’s promotion marks a significant milestone in the history of Uva Wellassa University and comes at a time where the University is celebrating its 10^th anniversary.
